3 Reasons You Should Still Optimize for Bing

Optimizing a website for search engines can be a challenging and strenuous task, one that many people consider just surrounding Google and its algorithm. But within a Search Engine Optimization strategy, it is important to not forget about the underdogs. Here are 3 reasons you still need to optimize your website for Bing.

More people use Bing than you probably think:

It’s a well-known fact that Google is the most visited search engine in the world- followed by sites like YouTube (also owned by Google) and Badoo. However, 1 in 3 people are still using search engines like Bing and/or Yahoo. With that being said, with every hundred people you are missing out on marketing to about 33 of them if you are neglecting optimizing for Bing. Though it is important to spend a good amount of time on optimizing for Google, it’s still crucial to your overall SEO strategy to follow Bing guidelines, which are pretty straight forward. In 2015, a study done by comScore revealed that though Google is still the industry leader with a market share of 64.5%, Bing’s market share had jumped up to 19.8% with Yahoo trailing at 12.8%. It can only be assumed that Bing in its young age will continue to rise, especially with specific demographics. Depending on your target audience, you may find that more of your target actually uses Bing than Google! That’s why you must optimize to every search engine, regardless of its relevancy to your own searching habits.

Bing and Microsoft are tightly related:

Most business people in the world use Microsoft, it’s a known fact. On almost all Microsoft devices, including PCs, tablets, laptops and smartphone, the default search engine is Bing. Additionally, many businesses recommend using IE (Internet Explorer) or Edge as they are the default Microsoft web browsers and both default to MSN or Bing as a homepage, both which have Bing as their default search engine. If you want to reach people that use Microsoft products in their entirety, it is crucial that you optimize for Bing so that they can find you on their desktops and on their devices.

Bing is much simpler to optimize for:

Google algorithm updates are dreaded for the most part due to their unexpectedness and their frequency. One day something is white hat SEO and the next day it is black hat. It’s difficult to keep up with optimizing for Google, and is a huge time investment. Nobody is perfect, so it’s important to not put all of your eggs in one basket, in a sense. You shouldn’t be relying on just one search engine, because if a Google algorithm comes and messes with your ranking and your trust value, you won’t have anything to keep your business showing up to people in search engines. Optimizing for Bing is much more straight-forward and less time consuming, while you still receive return and have less to worry about as far as algorithm updates go. Be ahead of your competition and be prepared with some sort of search engine backup plan.
